Informative picture that shows a group of foragers cutting near-symmetrical pieces of leaf fragments from an unfortunate plant. The leafcutting ants forage in such huge numbers that they can denude even large trees within a few days. As mentioned earlier, the amount of vegetable matter being harvested by leafcutter ants are estimated at an astonishing 12-17% of annual leaf production in the neotropical forests!
